Puppies over 20 weeks – Adolescents
As your puppy reaches adolescence they will become much more independent and confident and are likely to be more interested in the world around them. This can be a difficult time as up until now you have had the perfect puppy who was very attentive and eager to please you.
Adolescence is possibly the most difficult period of development for you and your puppy and is quite often the time when many owners give their dogs up to a rescue centre for rehoming.
Try to remember that this stage does not last forever !
If you have attended a good puppy class and taught your puppy good manors then this stage will be much easier but at times you may still wonder where it has all gone wrong.
If you have just acquired an adolescent puppy or were unable to begin training early, it’s not too late. It will be harder than teaching a young puppy and you must be prepared to work hard and keep your adolescent puppy’s attention.
Adult Training
Training for adult dogs is available to help you improve your dogs current skills or focus on one area you may be struggling with ie walking nicely on a lead or coming back when called no matter what the distraction.
Adult training sessions are also an excellent idea if you have recently taken on a rescue dog as they help you to build a bond with your new dog.
Training available for adolescent / adult dogs :-
We have found 1-2-1 training sessions to be more successful than class training for adolescent and rescue dogs as each dog that comes along to a class will be at a different training stage. With one to one training we can work at your speed and improve your current level of obedience in the area you really want to concentrate on. For example Coming back when called, walking nicely on a lead, not jumping up at strangers etc
