The Kennel Club Good Citizen Award – Bronze Standard
The Aim of The Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award is to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, will stay in one position on command, will allow it’s owner to clean, groom and inspect it. The dog must also come when called. The Bronze award aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.
The course runs for a period of 6 weeks and covers the following exercises:-
Cleanliness and identification
Collar and Lead
Walk on Lead
Control at Door / Gate
Controlled Walk Amongst People and Dogs
Stay on Lead for one minute
Grooming and Examination of the Dog
Return to Handler
Responsibility and Care
Week 7 is the test where an external examiner, approved by the Kennel Club, will test the dogs on the above exercises.
Treats cannot be used to complete the exercises during the test so this is an excellent opportunity to fade out those treats and teach your dog to respond to you without that food lure!
